Sylvia Gathoni, 24

Esport athlete and Red Bull Player

Putting a finger on the incident when Sylvia’s star turned supernova is a herculean task that even she cannot hack.

The one that stands out the most, at least on the first encounter with her story, is when she bagged a first by becoming the first Kenyan and East African to be signed to an American Esports team, XiT Gaming. That was in 2018 and she was aged only 19.

Just the previous year, she had been placed fourth at the Mortal Combat XL tournament at the East African Gaming Convention.

In 2019 and 2020, she would go ahead and bag more wins, triumphing at the Tekken tournament at the Blaze Esports tour and making her first top-eight finish at the Kenyan Tekken 254 qualifier respectively.

"Before I hit 40, I am eyeing the ultimate trophy; being one of the best Tekken players, not just from the African continent but in the global sphere."

More was to come in 2022.

Sylvia was named in the 30 under 30 Forbes Africa list for her outstanding achievements as an Esports athlete before being announced as the first Kenyan Red Bull Athlete in any discipline in October of the same year.

By the time she hits 40, the 24-year-old eyes the ultimate trophy; being one of the best Tekken players, not just from the African continent but in the global sphere.
