Joan discovered her passion for renewable energy finance and immediately moved from traditional finance and accounting.

The wife and mother of two has a Master of Science in Finance and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Nairobi and is currently pursuing a second Master’s in Energy Policy at the University of Sussex.

She is also a certified expert in Climate and Renewable Energy Finance by Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, a Certified Public Accountant, and a Certified Public Private Partnership Professional, Foundation. Additionally, she is a member of the International Association of Energy Economists, Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya, and Association of Women Accountants of Kenya. “I have extensive experience in grid-tied power and have been involved in project structuring and contract negotiations of major renewable energy projects in Kenya. I was previously the chief financial analyst at KenGen and before that senior audit associate at KPMG Kenya.”

“I am a 2021 Africa Power and Energy Elite, a 2020 Future Energy Leader at the World Energy Council, a Young African Leader Initiative, YALI, Power Africa, Women in Africa Power 2019 fellow, a mentor for the Global Women’s Network for the Energy Transition, GWNET, and fellow of the Open Africa 2020 programme.”

Joan is also a board member of OFGEN, a leading commercial and industrial energy service provider in East Africa, a board member of the Energy Society of Kenya, and an adviser for the Private Finance Advisory Network.

“I love the transformative work that I undertake that contributes to the achievement of the seventh sustainable development goal of ensuring universal energy access to all by 2030. I thrive in problem-solving and creating pathways and structures that will provide sustainable financial solutions that will enhance the achievement of SDG seven goal.”

Joan has a strong belief in destiny and that God has given us unique gifts and talents to effect change in this world.
