Jesse Muniu , 39

Managing Director East Africa

Lexo Energy

Jesse took over his current role about five years ago and started the business from scratch.

He has since grown and the company currently runs 50 service stations in Kenya and Tanzania. Before he joined Lexo, he worked at Vivo Energy, National Oil, Riva Petroleum and Kenol Kobil now Rubis Energy.

“I’m very passionate about the growth of business in East Africa and I’m very fortunate in my career to have worked in different markets across the region.”

Jesse leads a team that has in less than five years managed to build a successful downstream oil marketing company.

"“I’m very passionate about the growth of business in East Africa and I’m very fortunate in my career to have worked in different markets across the region.”"

“Our comparable sized companies within our industry are more than 40 years old and the 50 stations we run have all been acquired organically which makes it even more incredible”.

The turning point of his career was when he switched careers from being the head of sales and marketing at Riva Petroleum to take a path into business development.

Vivo Energy had then just acquired the assets of Shell and wanted to grow their station network aggressively. Jesse was tapped to drive this growth within the company.

“This role played within my strengths of education background as a civil engineer, which helped with building new stations, my experience in sales which helped in location selection and my contacts within the entire country having worked around the country before then.”

Mentors have played a major role in his career.

“This has helped me get to where I am today in my career.”
