Dr Kiptolo Boit is redefining how Kenya thinks about sports as an industry, a science, and a tool for social change beyond a pastime. A lecturer in the Department of Sports and Exercise Science at Kenyatta University, he founded NextGen Multisport Academy and NextGen Foundation to shape Kenya’s next wave of athletes.
Having gone through challenges as a member of the national swimming team, he was inspired to spearhead the change he once craved as an athlete. “I wanted to study this thing to the highest level and come back to make change,” he says. Dr Boit represented Kenya at the World Championships and the All-Africa Games, winning two bronze medals. He went on to pursue Sports and Exercise Science in South Africa, earned a Sports Medicine degree in Hong Kong, and later completed his PhD at just 28.
Through NextGen, Dr Boit brings laboratory precision to the playground. The academy trains more than 100 young athletes in football and swimming, supported by a 20-member team of coaches, interns, and administrators. Leveraging data, training takes almost half the time, giving the academy superior results. “We train less but achieve more,” he says.
A combination of science, service, and dedication places the sports school on a firmer ground.
"Our goal isn’t just medals — it’s helping children grow in confidence, character, and a love for sport."
He is not just coaching athletes but building systems for sustainability in sports.
NextGen Foundation uses sport to uplift children from underprivileged communities for true transformation. “We’re creating better human beings.” To him, success means more than medals and accolades — it’s when children stay in sport longer, find confidence, and grow in character. “If they love sport, we don’t have to push them. They take ownership,” he says.
On commercial or other challenges, his faith and family keep him grounded. “I draw strength from God, my wife, and my kids. It always works out in the end.” Dr Boit is eyeing “a space where Kenyan children can dream — and see those dreams come true.”
