Afreximbank Derivatives and Global Markets FX Flow

At 34, Brian, an actuarial scientist, is helping facilitate Africa’s continental free trade.

Trade is seen as a key pillar for the development of any country and African leaders are in the race to boost seamless trade across borders despite persistent barriers.

Among African professionals helping remove the barriers is Brian.

His role at the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) involves leading and structuring moderate to complex derivative solutions to manage various risks such as forex and commodities across Africa to facilitate trade.

"“In all of these roles, I have helped build franchises from scratch leveraging a supportive team and management.”"

A Kenyatta University alumnus who also holds a Master’s degree in Quantitative Finance, Financial Engineering, from the Louisiana-based WorldQuant University, Brian has previously worked at the London Stock Exchange as the regional treasury specialist, Equity Bank as the group head for derivatives, Barclays Bank as the regional structurer.

“In all of these roles, I have helped build franchises from scratch leveraging a supportive team and management.”

Besides his illustrious career at the global and African stage, the actuarial scientist also engages in mentoring young professionals.

He also runs small philanthropy that identifies needy students and empowers them through access to education.

“Our work sometimes involves structuring complex transactions that have a significant impact on economies. Showcasing such capabilities at global events such as the 2021 IATF (International African Trade Fair) which is sponsored by Afreximbank has been a highlight so far for my career.”
