Alex Muriu, 36

Country Head of Customer Success

Moniepoint Inc

Alex Muriu emerges as a polymath in technology, marketing, and customer experience in Kenya’s pulsating business landscape.

Currently serving as the Country Head of Customer Success at global fintech Moniepoint Inc., his professional journey is a tapestry woven with leadership, innovation, and a steadfast commitment to service.

Before his current role, he served as the Head of Customer Experience at Absa Kenya, where his visionary strategies elevated customer satisfaction benchmarks and positioned the bank as a leader in personalised banking experiences.

Now, at Moniepoint, Alex continues to push boundaries in the fintech arena.

"If you are in a leadership position, you have a responsibility to be entrepreneurial by inspiring change and encouraging new ideas to blossom."

Beyond his corporate endeavours, he is among the masterminds of Unthinkable Kenya, a dynamic business community fostering growth and collaboration among leaders, including entrepreneurs, startup founders and people working in corporations.

The motivation behind Unthinkable is a drive for a mental shift such that business leaders aspire to do bigger things and create impact at a larger scale.

His passion for entrepreneurial leadership is palpable. “If you are in a leadership position, you have a responsibility to be entrepreneurial by inspiring change and encouraging new ideas to blossom,” he asserts, reflecting his belief in leadership as a catalyst for innovation.

Alex’s childhood dreams of becoming an engineer, pilot, lawyer, actuarial scientist, and even a priest reveal a trajectory marked by diverse aspirations.

“As I grew older, I realised that it is the heart to serve that was pushing me toward that direction,” says the Computer Science graduate from JKUAT, who also holds a diploma from Strathmore University.

This realisation became a guiding force in his career, shaping his commitment to serving others through professional and community-building endeavours.

Upon graduating, he worked as a programmer, developing systems and websites, then discovered marketing working for a few agencies, but entrepreneurship kept calling.

He transitioned to founding his own companies -three so far- with a mixture of success and failure and many great lessons to boot.

Since its launch in 2016, Unthinkable Kenya has worked with nearly 3,000 leaders in different capacities through business coaching, learning and networking platforms, master classes, and business exchange forums.

Alex finds solace in mountain climbing and cherishes quality time with his family and a small circle of friends. A devoted reader, he dedicates at least three hours daily to reading, especially during the tranquil morning hours, fueling his passion for continuous learning.

Adding another layer to his multifaceted persona, he actively participates in church activities, finding joy and fulfilment in contributing to his community.

As a leader, mentor, angel investor, and community builder, Alex’s journey is one of continuous evolution and service. He hopes to make a profound impact on Kenya’s business landscape.
