Angel Warira Mbuthia, 27

Board member

National Youth Council

If there is anything Angel likes, it is to write the story of her life while holding the pen.

She was recently elected to serve as chairperson in the first-ever COMESA Youth Advisory Panel, alongside her other feather as the Secretary for Gender and International Relations in the All-Africa Students Union headquartered in Accra, Ghana.

In a country where you so often hear, ‘you are the leaders of tomorrow’, how does one get to where she is? “I may not call where I am a destination, but a journey. For any girl out there, I would recommend getting educated first.”

Her next frontier is to focus on advocacy, governance, and leadership. “It’s time for Kenya to start thinking about a female president. This will happen in my current generation. That is something I will want to live to see and fight for.”

"I may not call where I am a destination, but a journey. For any girl out there, I would recommend getting educated first."

Angel has a Political Science and Sociology degree and is pursuing a Master’s in Research and Public Policy. At 27, does she feel the weight of her achievements? “When I was younger it was worse. I got elected first to the University of Nairobi as Academic Affairs Secretary and later the vice chair. The world is ever-changing and there are always younger people doing more, so I am more inspired.”
